Bugliosi, a former attorney in the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, successfully prosecuted the infamous Charles Manson, along with members of his murderous group of followers, including  Charles "Tex" Watson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Leslie Van Houten, all of whom were sentenced to lengthy prison sentences. The book was twice adapted for television movies (in 1976 and 2004).  Bugliosi would go on to be a prolific writer of true crime, winning additional awards and
